Naisargika Karaka (Natural Significators)
Karaka means 'significator' or 'indicator'. Naisargika karaka are fixed natural significators—each planet inherently signifies certain life domains, independent of house or sign.
The Seven Natural Significators
Sun (Karaka for)

How Karakas Work
A planet's naisargika karaka status modifies how it is read. For example:
Example 1: Jupiter in the 3rd house
The 3rd house signifies siblings and courage. Jupiter is the karaka for luck and children.
Interpretation: Jupiter in the 3rd house strengthens the native's relationship with siblings (3rd) and may bring a fortunate younger sibling, or the native becomes lucky through siblings. Additionally, Jupiter's karaka of wisdom influences how the native communicates.
Example 2: Venus in the 9th house
The 9th house signifies father, dharma (righteousness), and long journeys. Venus is the karaka for love and relationships.
Interpretation: Venus in the 9th house may indicate the native's father is handsome or refined, or the native seeks beauty and pleasure in spiritual practice. Alternatively, the native finds love through travel or spiritual pursuits.
Atmakaraka (Significator of the Soul)
A special rule: the planet with the highest longitude in the natal chart (excluding Rahu and Ketu) is the Atmakaraka (soul significator). This planet reveals the native's core life lesson and spiritual purpose.
Example: If Jupiter has the highest longitude, Jupiter is the Atmakaraka. The native's soul lesson involves Jupiter's significations (wisdom, generosity, faith). The native will repeatedly face situations requiring Jupiter-like trust or expansion.
Grahaaruda (Planet Intensity)
A planet can also be the grahaaruda (significator specific to the context) for a house. For instance, if you ask "who shows the state of my mother?", the answer is Moon (natural mother karaka) AND the 4th house lord (house of mother). Whichever is stronger determines the actual outcome.
