Nadi uses a directional framework overlaid on the zodiac. The zodiac is divided into four directions:
EAST (Purva): Aries, Taurus, Gemini (roughly 0-90°). Themes: Beginnings, self-assertion, travel, new ventures.
NORTH (Uttara): Cancer, Leo, Virgo (roughly 90-180°). Themes: Growth, expansion, fame, career.
WEST (Pashchima): Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius (roughly 180-270°). Themes: Partnerships, transformation, sexuality, shared resources.
SOUTH (Dakshina): Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces (roughly 270-360°). Themes: Endings, mystery, spirituality, loss/gain cycles.
Cluster analysis: Group planets by direction. If most planets are in NORTH, the chart is "north-heavy"; life theme is career, growth, and public recognition. If planets are scattered, life is variegated (multiple competing themes).
Direction-based combinations: A planet in EAST with another in WEST suggests dynamic polarity (self vs. partner, ego vs. cooperation). Planets in the same direction reinforce that direction's themes.
Interpretation: A chart with Mars (EAST), Jupiter (NORTH), Saturn (SOUTH) is complex—action in start, expansion in career, but also contraction and loss in later life. The direction clusters tell the narrative arc.
