The Decision Matrix: Choosing Your Instrument
The purpose of a decision matrix is not to rank the systems absolutely. It is to route a given question to the system best equipped to answer it, and to know in advance what you will do when they disagree. Deciding this before you see the chart is what keeps the reading honest.
Matching system to question
- A narrow yes-or-no question, accurate birth time: KP. It is built to return a decisive verdict, and the cuspal sub-lord gives a clear answer rather than a weighing of factors.
- Life purpose, vocation, karmic direction: Jaimini. Atmakaraka, Karakamsha and Purushartha analysis address exactly this, where Parashara's house-based reading is more diffuse.
- A full life reading, character and broad arc: Parashara. Its breadth and its dasha system are unmatched for describing a whole life rather than settling one question.
- An unknown or unreliable birth time: horary, or rectification first. Do not run degree-sensitive systems on a guessed time and present the result as firm.
- Bhrigu Nadi: a supplementary perspective, cross-checked against the others, with its accuracy limitations stated to the client.
Decide the tie-break in advance
Write down, before you look at the chart, what you will do if the systems split. Without that commitment you will unconsciously favour whichever system gives the answer you or the client prefers. A workable default: where the question is specific and the birth time is sound, give KP the casting vote; where the question is about meaning or direction, give it to Jaimini; where it concerns the shape of a whole life, give it to Parashara.
Confidence language.
Say "all four systems agree" when they do, and say "the systems are divided here, so I would not press this point" when they are. Clients are far better at handling stated uncertainty than at forgiving false confidence that later fails. Your credibility rests on calibration, not on always having an answer.
What the matrix cannot fix
No routing rule rescues a bad birth time, and no amount of cross-checking makes an unfalsifiable prediction meaningful. The matrix is a discipline for organising genuine technique. It is not a substitute for the judgement of knowing when the chart simply does not support an answer, and saying so.
