Sthira Dasha is a third sign-based system, less widely taught than Chara or Narayana, but used by advanced practitioners for timing refinement. "Sthira" means "fixed."
The principle: Certain signs are "fixed" in their nature (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius), and Sthira Dasha sequences through signs or houses in a fixed, unchanging order (usually Lagna, 2nd, 3rd, ... 12th house).
Duration for each Sthira dasha is derived from the natural ruler of that sign's domain (e.g., Sthira 1st dasha = 12 years, 2nd dasha = 8 years, etc., following classical planetary periods).
Use case: When Chara and Narayana predict the same general period but differ on exact timing, Sthira may provide a tiebreaker. Some charts also show strong Sthira dasha correspondences with events.
Limitation: Sthira is less standardized than Chara/Narayana; different schools teach different duration lists. This course uses the most common form (12, 8, 5, 10, 7, 18, 16, 19, 17 years for houses 1-9, then repeat), but acknowledge that variation exists.
Advanced note: Sthira Dasha can also be derived from Karakamsha (the house of AK) rather than Lagna, creating another layer of detail.
