Check Kavippu first
Session 4 of the Jamakol course opens with a blunt instruction: whenever you answer a Jamakol question, check Kavippu before anything else. Five questions, in order:
- Where is Kavippu counted from Udhayam?
- Is Kavippu in the bhava that owns the question?
- Is Kavippu with the karaka planet of the matter?
- Is Kavippu in Udhayam itself?
- Is Kavippu with the Udhayam lord?
Kavippu is described as the final deciding factor for a positive or negative result, with the weight of ten Rahus. Wherever it sits, the matters of that house are damaged.
House by house
Houses are counted from Udhayam. The significations below are the ones the tradition applies in a Prashna context.

The sixth versus the tenth
The distinction matters more than it looks. The sixth is service and employment — a job under someone. The tenth is profession, business and self-employment — standing in the world. "Will I get this job" and "should I start this business" are different questions and land in different houses, so a Kavippu that denies one may say nothing about the other. Classifying the question correctly is half of a correct reading, which is why our Prasnam Setup screen asks for the subject before it casts.
The safeguard: relevance
Kavippu does not make every question negative. The teaching is explicit: ask whether the question actually relates to the house Kavippu occupies. If it does not, do not declare a denial. Examine instead the karaka planet, the relevant house and its lord, the Udhayam lord, and the remaining indications.
Rajvidya implements exactly this. Question classification selects the relevant bhavas and karakas first; the Kavippu rules are then tested against those bhavas. A Kavippu denial is recorded as a terminal verdict — the engine will not offset it with favourable findings — but it is only raised when the Kavippu placement touches the matter at hand, and the Palan screen names the decisive rule so you can see which of the five checks fired.

Two further rules are worth carrying. Kavippu joined to the karaka planet of the matter damages the matter through the significator rather than the house. And a success combination that would otherwise support the question loses its force when Kavippu sits with it — the tradition requires the favourable combination to be clear of Kavippu.
