What Jamakol Prashnam is
Jamakol Prashnam is a Tamil system of horary astrology: a chart cast for the moment a question is asked, read to answer that question. It is not a second way of drawing a birth chart. The question is the subject of the chart, and the method is built around deciding one thing — will this matter come about or not.
The tradition is taught as being especially suited to definite questions: will I get this job, will this marriage proceed, is this property worth buying, will the stolen article come back, is the missing person alive, will this treatment work. Because the chart is cast on the moment, you do not need a birth chart or a birth time to use it — which is what makes it the most immediately usable system in Nadi Rahasya.
Why a Prashna chart at all
The teaching starts from a practical frustration. A natal chart can look supportive while the person in front of you says everything is stuck, or look difficult while they say life is going well. The natal chart carries the karmic background of the birth; the Prashna chart carries the present circumstance and the present act. For a genuine, serious question, the tradition allows the Prashna chart to take precedence for that question.
The condition is stated as firmly as the permission: the question must be genuine. Idle curiosity, testing the astrologer, or asking the same thing five times in an afternoon weakens the foundation of the method. Ask once, ask seriously, and record the moment.
The four layers of a reading
Every Jamakol judgement is built in the same order.

Two further factors sit alongside them: the Jama grahas, a set of eight time-based positions that move far faster than the real planets, and Maandi, a shadow point examined particularly in questions of survival and death. The South Indian frame
Jamakol is read in a South Indian chart, where the twelve rasis sit in fixed positions and the houses are counted from the rising point. Signs do not move; houses do. Every rule in the system is a statement about a house counted from Udhayam — the second from Udhayam, the tenth from Udhayam, the sixth, eighth or twelfth from Udhayam — so fixing that habit early makes the rest of the method readable.

This is why the minute matters. A question asked at 11:02 and the same question asked at 11:07 can carry a different Aarudam and therefore a different Kavippu. Record the time you were actually asked.
Kavippu decides
Kavippu is the distinctive factor of the system and the reason readings are short. The teaching calls it the deciding authority and gives it the memorable weight of ten Rahus. If Kavippu denies the matter, favourable combinations elsewhere are not treated as overturning that denial. Kavippu sitting in Udhayam itself is the strongest form: the question is answered no.
There is an equally important safeguard, and beginners routinely miss it. Kavippu does not make every question negative. You must ask whether the question actually concerns the house Kavippu occupies. Kavippu in the fourth does not deny a job interview. What makes a yes
On the positive side the tradition works largely through relationship between Udhayam and two lords. A connection between Udhayam and the tenth lord supports accomplishment of the matter pursued; a connection between Udhayam and the eleventh lord supports fulfilment of the desire behind the question. A connection may be the lord entering Udhayam, the Udhayam lord going to that house, conjunction, or an exchange of signs. Against that, Aarudam falling in the sixth, eighth or twelfth from Udhayam, or a debilitated Udhayam lord, pulls the reading down. See Jamakol success rules.
When Udhayam is empty
If no planet occupies Udhayam, the tradition falls back on snapshot techniques rather than guessing. The Mukha zones, measured from the Jama Sun, read Udhayam in the downward-facing zone as failure, the upward-facing zone as success, and the both-facing zone as success after initial failure. The Siro groups classify the rasis into three sets, giving success, failure, or success after delay. Both techniques are explicitly conditional on an empty Udhayam, and our engine applies them only in that case.
What Rajvidya computes
Jamakol in Rajvidya is a six-screen workspace. Only the entry screen charges credits; the rest of that reading is free to move through, and every screen has its own URL so a cast can be bookmarked or sent to a colleague.

The verdict is one of a small set — denied, negative, mixed, positive or inconclusive — and a Kavippu denial is terminal by design: the engine will not average it away against favourable findings.
What the engine implements
The calculation layer is complete: Udhayam from the twelve Udhaya rasis of the day or night, Aarudam from the minute of the hour or from a number between 1 and 108, the Surya Veedhi and its anchor selected by the Sun's sign, Kavippu counted from Aarudam to the anchor and then forward from Udhayam, Maandi from the weekday figure added to the Sun's longitude with day and night tables both confirmed, Jama time as eight Jamas in each half from sunrise and sunset, the eight Jama grahas in fixed order at 45° steps, and fixed-sign functional substitution. On the prediction side: question classification, planet-in-Udhayam rules, house and lord rules, the tenth and eleventh connections, the snapshot techniques, approach and crossing of Udhayam by degree, activity timing, Kiraga Nilai, Pagai Murai, the Kathir grid and planetary rays, direction, and colour of dress. Every finding carries a rule trace.
How to cast a good Prasnam
- Write the question in one sentence before you open the module. "Will this specific job offer come through by December" is answerable; "what about my career" is not.
- Use the moment you were asked, not the moment you sat down to analyse it. If a client asked you at 09:14, cast for 09:14.
- Use the astrologer's location for sunrise and sunset, as the tradition instructs, and the module's setup screen asks for it explicitly.
- Check Kavippu first, exactly as Session 4 instructs: where is it from Udhayam, is it in the relevant bhava, is it with the karaka, is it with the Udhayam lord.
- Ask whether the Kavippu house is the question's house before declaring a denial.
- Do not re-cast for a better answer. Repeat casting of the same question is what the tradition means by a question that is no longer genuine.
Frequently asked
Do I need my birth details? No. Jamakol needs the moment and the place of the question. This is the one section of Nadi Rahasya that works with no birth chart on file.
Can I ask about someone else? Yes — the tradition covers questions about another person, including missing persons and questions about a third party's condition.
How is this different from KP horary? KP horary starts from a number between 1 and 249 and works through sub-lords. Jamakol starts from the moment, uses Udhayam and Aarudam as two reference points, and hinges on Kavippu. Rajvidya runs both, separately, and does not merge their verdicts.
What if the answer is inconclusive? Then the cast says so. An inconclusive verdict is a real outcome in a system with a terminal denial rule; it is more useful than a manufactured yes.
