What makes a Jamakol yes
Jamakol is built to answer yes or no, and the positive side of the method is narrower than most people expect. It rests on relationship: is Udhayam connected to the lords that carry accomplishment and gain? Everything else — dignity, motion, snapshot zones — modifies what those connections say.
Rule one: Udhayam and the tenth lord
The tenth house from Udhayam signifies the matter being pursued — the action, the thing being done. A connection between Udhayam and the tenth lord is therefore a success indication. The tradition accepts several forms of connection, and any one of them qualifies:
- The tenth lord comes into Udhayam.
- The Udhayam lord goes to the tenth house.
- The Udhayam lord and the tenth lord sit together.
- The two exchange signs.
- Another meaningful relationship between them.
What is not accepted is the absence of a relationship. Two strong planets minding their own business in unrelated houses is not a connection.
Rule two: Udhayam and the eleventh lord
The eleventh is gain and fulfilment, and the tradition makes a quietly profound point about it: every question arises from a desire. A connection between Udhayam and the eleventh lord therefore supports the desire behind the question being fulfilled, in the same five forms as above. Conversely, Kavippu in the eleventh is read as the desire going unmet.
Exchange
Exchange deserves its own note because it is the form beginners miss. If planet A occupies the sign ruled by planet B while planet B occupies the sign ruled by planet A, the two are in exchange, and the required relationship exists even though neither planet is anywhere near the other. A Udhayam-lord and eleventh-lord exchange is a strong supporting combination.
What pulls the reading down

And on the supportive side: an exalted Udhayam lord, especially placed in Udhayam itself, is one of the cleanest positive configurations in the system.
When Udhayam is empty: the snapshot techniques
If no planet occupies Udhayam — neither an inner planet nor a Jama graha — the tradition does not improvise. It uses snapshot techniques, and both are explicitly conditional on that emptiness.
The Mukha zones
Measured from the Jama Sun, the chart divides into downward-facing (Ardha-Mukha), upward-facing (Urdhva-Mukha) and both-facing (Tri-Mukha) zones. Then:
- Udhayam in Ardha-Mukha → failure.
- Udhayam in Urdhva-Mukha → success.
- Udhayam in Tri-Mukha → success after failure: the first attempt may not land, a later one may.
Because the Jama Sun moves about every hour and a half, the zones move with it.
The Siro groups
The twelve rasis fall into three groups, and Udhayam's group gives a snapshot verdict: the first group reads as success, the second as failure, and Pisces as success after delay. As with the Mukha zones, this is a fallback for an empty Udhayam rather than a standing rule.
Shubha Udhayam and Shubha Aarudam
The tradition also reads benefic occupation or support of Udhayam and of Aarudam. Both benefic is the favourable combination; both afflicted is its opposite.
How Rajvidya weighs these
The Analysis screen lists each finding with the rule that produced it, and the Palan screen resolves them into one of five verdicts — denied, negative, mixed, positive or inconclusive. Two design decisions matter for trusting the output:
- A Kavippu denial is terminal. It is not averaged against favourable findings, because the tradition does not allow that.
- The snapshot techniques are applied only when Udhayam is empty, exactly as the condition states, and the screen says when they were used.
Where the findings genuinely do not resolve, the verdict is inconclusive. That is a real answer in a system with a hard denial rule, and more honest than a manufactured yes.
