What Karma Jothidam is
Karma Jothidam is the karmic wing of Tamil Nadi astrology. Where a general reading asks what will happen, Karma Jothidam asks why the same obstruction keeps returning — and treats the answer as carried over rather than newly made. In the Nadi framing, the leaf records not only events but karmic debts, spiritual lessons and dharma, and the reading exists to name the debt and prescribe the pariharam that settles it.
Classical Jyotisha supplies the chart machinery. Hindu philosophy separates sanchita karma, the whole accumulated store, from prarabdha, the portion ripening in this life. Tradition then reads the nodes and the retrograde planets as the signposts: Ketu for what the soul has already mastered, Rahu for the unfamiliar lesson it has taken on, and retrogrades — Saturn above all — for unfinished business re-presented for completion.
What the reading examines
- The nodal axis. Rahu and Ketu by sign, house, nakshatra and pada, read as the theme of the incarnation.
- Retrograde planets. Each retrograde flagged as a task already encountered in a prior cycle and returned for conscious completion.
- Saturn's burden. Saturn as the debt: where the chart requires patience, labour and surrender before it will yield.
- The Shashtyamsha (D-60). The finest classical division, used in tradition precisely for karmic residue.
- Gandanta knots. The junctions between water and fire signs, where the tradition places the most difficult transitions.
- Karmic doshas. Kala Sarpa, when the seven planets fall inside the Rahu-Ketu axis; Pitru dosha, the ancestral debt inherited by the descendant; Guru Chandal, Jupiter conditioned by Rahu.
- Accumulated load. Occupancy of the sixth, eighth and twelfth houses, where karmic weight is traditionally read.
The pariharam side
A karmic reading that names a debt and stops is only half of the tradition. Karma Jothidam pairs each finding with a remedial class drawn from Agamic and Vaishnava practice:

The reading tells you which class applies to which finding, rather than handing over a generic list. Where the tradition names a specific rite for a specific dosha — shraddha for pitru dosha, Nagaraja and Shiva worship for Kala Sarpa — the page names it.

How to use it well
- Read doshas with their exception rules. A named dosha is not a verdict; the tradition attaches conditions, and the page shows them.
- Start with one remedy, not six. The tradition treats pariharam as gradual. Choose the class attached to your heaviest finding and hold it.
- Use it for pattern, not for fear. The value of a karmic reading is that it explains a recurrence you had already noticed.
- Pair it with timing. Prarabdha becomes actionable when you know which dasha is delivering it; read it alongside your dasha tree.
