What Chandra Nadi is
Chandra Nadi is a Tamil Nadi method that reads the moving Moon rather than the natal chart alone. Its working principle, as taught in the volumes of Tirupur S. Gopalakrishnan, is short enough to state in one line: when the transiting Moon makes contact with a natal planet, that planet is activated, and what it signifies — its karakatwa and the bhavas it owns or occupies — is what comes into play for the native right now.
That makes it a different instrument from ordinary Gochar reading. Gochar asks where the slow planets sit. Chandra Nadi asks which of your natal planets the Moon is currently touching, and therefore what is on your mind and in your circumstances over the next hours and days.
How the tradition reads it
- Activation, not aspect scoring. Contact is read as a switch being thrown on a natal planet, and the reading proceeds from what that planet carries.
- Karakatwa first. Once a planet is activated, its significations — Mercury for speech, documents and trade; Venus for relationship and comfort; Saturn for labour, delay and duty — describe the theme of the period.
- Bhava weighting. The houses the activated planet occupies and owns say which departments of life the theme lands in.
- Three tenses. The tradition separates what the Moon has already crossed, what it is on, and what it is approaching, and reads them as past, present and future of the current cycle.
- Short horizon. Because the Moon moves roughly a sign in two and a quarter days, the useful forecast window is hours and days, not years.

Every screen takes a chart id, so if you keep several charts — your own, a client's, a family member's — you can move the whole workspace to another chart without losing your place.
How to use it well
- Open it before you act, not after. Chandra Nadi's value is in the next seventy-two hours. Check it before a conversation, a filing, a negotiation.
- Read the Bhava Matrix before the prose. If the weight sits in the sixth and the tenth, a domestic reading of the same activation is off target.
- Use Three Tenses to sanity-check yourself. If the crossed contacts describe what actually happened yesterday, the current reading deserves more trust.
- Take the contact times as windows, not verdicts. A contact time is when a condition holds, not a guarantee that an event completes inside it.
- Cross-read with your dasha. A Moon activation inside a supportive Vimshottari period behaves differently from the same activation inside a hostile one.
Frequently asked
Is this the same as my Moon sign horoscope? No. A Moon-sign horoscope reads the transiting Moon against a sun-sign or moon-sign group. Chandra Nadi reads it against your own natal planets, so two people born on the same day in different years get different activations.
Do I need an exact birth time? The activation logic uses natal planetary longitudes, which are stable across small time errors, but bhava weighting uses your houses. With an uncertain birth time, treat the planet-level activation as firm and the bhava weighting as provisional — or rectify first with our BTR engine.
How often should I check? Daily is reasonable; the set changes as the Moon moves. The 72-Hour Forecast exists so you do not have to.
