Specific wealth yoga for Aries Lagna.

The Dhana Yoga (Sun/Jup/Moon), also known in Sanskrit as धन योग, is a highly auspicious, wealth-producing planetary combination configured specifically for an Aries (Mesha) Ascendant. Classified as a premier wealth-generating yoga, its primary significance is the acquisition of immense financial prosperity, material abundance, and high status. By linking the lords of the houses of fortune, intellect, and gains, this yoga channels the combined energies of the Sun, Jupiter, and the Moon to elevate the native's financial standing and ensure long-term prosperity.

How It Forms

This specific Dhana Yoga is defined by a precise three-part configuration that requires an Aries (Mesha) Lagna:

  • The Ascendant (Lagna) must be Aries, which naturally places Leo as the fifth house.
  • The Sun must occupy its own sign of Leo in the fifth house.
  • Jupiter and the Moon must be conjoined in the eleventh house (Aquarius).

Under this layout, several classical relationships are activated. Because the Sun is in the fifth house and the Moon-Jupiter conjunction is in the eleventh house, they stand in direct mutual aspect (a seventh-house relationship). A teaching found in Scientific Hindu Astrology notes that for an Aries Lagna, the Sun and Jupiter are natural benefics, and their mutual aspect here establishes a powerful, supportive link between them. Furthermore, Phaladeepika states that the Moon is highly auspicious when placed in the eleventh house from the Sun, which is precisely realized in this axis. Jupiter is also exceptionally placed, occupying the eleventh house from both the Lagna and the Moon, which is classified as a highly benefic position in classical astrology.

Classical Effects

Wealth and Prosperity

The primary and most celebrated effect of this yoga is that the native acquires much wealth. By placing the fifth lord (the Sun) in the fifth house and the ninth lord (Jupiter) conjoined with the fourth lord (the Moon) in the eleventh house of gains, a powerful flow of wealth is generated. The mutual aspect between the fifth and eleventh houses ensures that the native's intellectual pursuits and creative endeavors translate directly into massive financial rewards.

Intellectual and Spiritual Disposition

The planets involved in this yoga are of a highly refined nature. According to Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, the Sun, Moon, and Jupiter are all primary indicators of Satwa Guna (purity, truth, and wisdom), which blesses the native with an ethical, noble, and intelligent mind. However, a slightly different classification is preserved in Scientific Hindu Astrology, which holds that the Sun and Jupiter represent Satwa Guna, while the Moon represents Rajas Guna (passion and active drive). This combination of purity and drive makes the native both highly capable and spiritually inclined.

Progeny and Legacy

With the fifth house of children ruled by a strong Sun in its own sign and aspected by the great benefic Jupiter, this yoga promises excellent results regarding progeny. Phaladeepika states that a native is blessed with children when Jupiter and the fifth lord from the Lagna or Moon are well-placed, and the fifth house is aspected by a benefic or the lord of an auspicious house. All of these conditions are met here. In terms of the number of children, Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra traditionally associates the Sun with one child, the Moon with two, and Jupiter with three.

Indication of Male Birth

An interesting application of classical gender rules applies to this specific configuration. Sanketanidhi and Jataka Parijata state that if the Ascendant, Jupiter, Moon, and Sun are all placed in odd signs, a male birth is predicted. In this yoga, the Aries Lagna (odd), the Sun in Leo (odd), and Jupiter and the Moon in Aquarius (odd) are all in odd signs. Furthermore, Saravali affirms that if the Lagna, Moon, Jupiter, and Sun are strong and occupy male signs (Rasis) and male Navamsas, a male child is indicated.

Strength and Timing

This Dhana Yoga delivers its promised wealth and status during the major and sub-periods (Dashas and Antardashas) of the Sun, Jupiter, and the Moon. Phaladeepika notes that the positive or negative manifestations of any planetary period are heavily modified by whether the participating planets are well-placed or adversely posited; in this yoga, the strong placement of the Sun in Leo and Jupiter in the eleventh house ensures highly positive dasha results. The duration of sub-periods (Antardashas) during these major dashas is calculated using the standard formula noted in Phaladeepika: multiplying the years of the Mahadasha by the years of the planet whose Antardasha is required, and dividing the product by 120.

The relative strength of these three planets also dictates the choice of Dasha systems used to calculate longevity and timing. As taught in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and Scientific Hindu Astrology:

  • If the Sun is the strongest among the Lagna, Sun, and Moon, the Pindayu system should be followed.
  • If the Moon is the strongest, the Naisargika system is utilized.
  • If Jupiter is the strongest, the Vimshottari system is preferred.

Additionally, one Parashari tradition in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra outlines specific dasha spans for these planets, assigning 6 years to the Sun, 21 years to the Moon, and 10 years to Jupiter. In terms of daily strength, New Techniques of Prediction notes that the Sun and Jupiter are Shirodaya planets and are strong during the day, while the Moon is a nocturnal planet and gains strength at night. Furthermore, Bhava and Graha Balas states that the Sun and Jupiter gain an additional 15 Shashtiamsas of strength when placed in odd signs, which is the case in this yoga. Additionally, Phaladeepika notes that when the lord of the Lagna (Mars) and the lord of the fifth house (the Sun) conjoin in transit, the positive significations of the fifth house are fully activated.

Cancellation and Caveats

The primary threat to the manifestation of this yoga is affliction. If the Sun, Moon, or Jupiter are conjunct or heavily aspected by natural malefics, the wealth-producing capacity of the yoga is severely compromised.

A notable classical warning is found in Scientific Hindu Astrology regarding the mutual aspect between the Sun and the Moon. Although this yoga is highly auspicious, the text warns that when the Moon is aspected by the Sun, it can sometimes indicate a "beggar" or someone bereft of property. Practising astrologers must carefully evaluate the strength of the Moon and the presence of Jupiter's protective conjunction to ensure this negative aspect does not dilute the wealth promised by the Dhana Yoga.

Additionally, regarding progeny, Phaladeepika warns that if the fifth house from the Lagna, Moon, or Jupiter is associated with or aspected by malefics without any benefic association or aspect, childlessness may be pronounced, overriding the positive indications of the Sun's strong placement in the fifth house.
