Amaranantha Dhana Yoga (आमरणान्त धन योग) is an auspicious benefic combination belonging to the category of Dhana Yogas, or wealth-producing planetary configurations. The Sanskrit term Amaranantha refers to that which persists until death, indicating that this yoga signifies a life of uninterrupted financial prosperity, material abundance, and the continuous enjoyment of wealth. It is a configuration that ensures lifelong material security, shielding the native from financial destitution from birth until their final days.

How It Forms

According to the authoritative definition, Amaranantha Dhana Yoga is formed when the following three conditions are met simultaneously in a natal chart:

  • The second house of the horoscope is occupied by multiple planets.
  • The lord of the second house is strong.
  • Jupiter, the natural significator (karaka) of wealth and expansion, is strong.

When analyzing or predicting the results of this house-based yoga, the tradition broadly agrees that the astrologer must prioritize the Lagna (Ascendant) and its exact cusp positions rather than the Moon sign. This principle, attested in works such as Predictive Stellar Astrology and K.P. Reader 3: Predictive Stellar Astrology, holds true regardless of whether the Lagna is afflicted. To ensure predictive accuracy, the exact degree of the Ascendant and the twelve cusps must be utilized to determine the true boundaries and planetary occupants of the second house.

Classical Effects

The primary positive effect of Amaranantha Dhana Yoga is that the native remains wealthy throughout their entire life, experiencing no negative counter-effects from the yoga itself. The presence of multiple planets in the second house acts as a powerful reservoir of financial resources, speech, and family assets.

Conjunction of Benefics

If the multiple planets occupying the second house happen to be benefics in conjunction, the classical text Saravali holds that such a combination makes the native exceptionally wealthy, sovereign, and famous. The concentrated energy of multiple auspicious planets in the house of accumulated wealth amplifies the financial status of the native to an extraordinary degree.

Jaimini Rajayoga Connections

The importance of the second house in wealth generation is further echoed in the Jaimini school of astrology. According to the Jaimini Sutras, if benefics occupy the second house (alongside the fourth, fifth, eighth, or ninth houses) from the Lagnapada (Arudha Lagna) or the Paka Lagnapada (or its Saptama), a powerful Rajayoga is formed. This alignment brings immense status, success, and prosperity, reinforcing the lifelong financial security promised by the Amaranantha Dhana Yoga.

Strength and Timing

Amaranantha Dhana Yoga is considered permanently active and is always strong once its foundational conditions are established in the natal chart. It does not rely on specific transits to be activated, though its fruits are enjoyed continuously.

Evaluating Planetary Strength

To determine the exact caliber of wealth the native will enjoy, the strength of the participating planets must be carefully evaluated. One Nadi tradition, as presented by Satyanarayan Naik in Roots of Nadi, provides a clear structural framework for this assessment:

  • Planets with a strength of 55% or above provide a "good" yoga, delivering the highest tier of wealth and prosperity.
  • Planets with a strength between 28% and 54% provide an "ordinary" yoga, resulting in moderate but stable financial comfort.
  • Planets with a strength below 28% yield weak results, which may limit the grand scale of the yoga's manifestation.

Debility and Cancellation (Neecha Bhanga)

If the second lord or any of the planets occupying the second house are debilitated, general principles of Parashara astrology dictate how this debility may be canceled to instead produce a Raja Yoga. As outlined in the Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra, if a planet is debilitated but its debility is canceled (Neecha Bhanga), and the planet is situated in a Kendra (angular) or Trikona (trinal) house, it produces a highly successful Raja Yoga that brings status and success during its dasha and bhukti (planetary periods).

Furthermore, Parashara exceptions state that if a debilitated planet is placed in a duststhana (specifically the sixth, eighth, or twelfth house) or the third house, it can still generate a Raja Yoga. This is especially true if the Lagna lord is exalted, in its own sign, or aspects the Lagna, or if the debilitated planet's dispositor is well-placed in a Kendra or Trikona.

Cancellation and Caveats

According to the primary definition, there are no cancellations associated with Amaranantha Dhana Yoga. It is permanently active and remains a reliable indicator of lifelong wealth.

Variant Readings

While the primary definition of Amaranantha Dhana Yoga requires multiple planets in the second house alongside a strong second lord and Jupiter, classical texts present several closely related wealth-producing configurations.

The Vargottama Jupiter Variant

The classical text Jataka Parijata records a variant wealth combination where Jupiter is in Vargottama and is posited in either the Lagna or the fourth house. If other planets occupy the second or eleventh houses, and the Lagna lord is powerful, the native is predicted to be highly wealthy and happy. This highlights how the strength of Jupiter and its relationship to the second house remains a cornerstone of financial astrology.

The Saturn in Lagna Exception

Another unique wealth configuration is found in the Uttara-kalamrita, which states that Saturn can bestow immense wealth and prosperity when it occupies a Lagna identical to Pisces (Meena), Libra (Tula), or Sagittarius (Dhanus). This effect is contingent on the seventh Kendra not being occupied or aspected by either Jupiter or Mercury.

The Lakshmi Yoga Alternative

For charts where the second house does not host multiple planets, other classical Dhana Yogas may manifest. The Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra defines Lakshmi Yoga, which forms when the ninth lord is in the ninth house, the fifth lord is present, and the second or eleventh lord aspects the combination. This configuration similarly grants outstanding wealth and prosperity, demonstrating the diverse ways in which the second house and its lords interact with other benefic houses to secure a native's financial destiny.
