गो योग

Raja Yogas

Powerful yoga for family status and wealth.

Share

Go Yoga (गो योग) is an auspicious and highly powerful Raja Yoga in Vedic astrology that primarily signifies exceptional family status, wealth, strength, and respect. As a benefic combination, it elevates the native's social standing, often conferring leadership, high authority, or kingly status, while ensuring a prosperous, respectable, and dignified lineage.

How It Forms

According to the authoritative definition, Go Yoga is formed when the following three planetary conditions are simultaneously met in a natal chart:

  • Jupiter in Sagittarius: Jupiter must occupy the sign of Sagittarius, which is its Moolatrikona sign.
  • Conjunction of the 2nd Lord: The lord of the 2nd house (governing wealth, speech, and family) must be conjoined with Jupiter in Sagittarius.
  • Exalted Lagna Lord: The lord of the Lagna (Ascendant) must be in its sign of exaltation.

When verifying the formation of this yoga, classical and modern traditions emphasize the absolute primacy of the Ascendant over the Moon sign. The Stellar Astrology (KP) tradition, as documented in Predictive Stellar Astrology and K.P. Reader 3: Predictive Stellar Astrology, maintains a strict rule that astrologers must always prioritize the exact position of the Lagna and its cusps for predictions, rather than the Moon sign. This rule applies regardless of whether the Lagna is afflicted. Therefore, to correctly identify the 2nd lord and the exalted Lagna lord for Go Yoga, the exact Ascendant and cusp positions must be calculated and utilized as the primary reference point.

Classical Effects

The classical texts attribute highly positive outcomes to Go Yoga, focusing on material prosperity, physical strength, and familial dignity.

Family Status and Wealth

True to its core significance, Go Yoga is a premier combination for establishing a respectable family and acquiring vast wealth. The conjunction of the 2nd lord with a strong, Moolatrikona Jupiter in Sagittarius ensures that the native is born into or builds a family of high repute. The native is described as strong, highly wealthy, and capable of commanding respect akin to a king.

Influence of the Exalted Lagna Lord

Because Go Yoga requires an exalted Lagna Lord, the specific placement of this exalted ruler can introduce distinct traits. For instance, the text My Experiences in Astrology notes that if the exalted Lagna Lord happens to be positioned in the 8th house, the native will be inclined toward corpulence, philosophical and occult studies, and will display a somewhat impulsive and enterprising temperament.

Progeny and Legacy

The strength of the Lagna and Jupiter in this yoga also has significant implications for family expansion and domestic happiness. According to Phaladeepika, if the Lagna and its lord are strong (which is guaranteed by the exalted Lagna Lord in Go Yoga) and there is a good relationship between the 5th house, its lord, and Jupiter, there will be mutual affection between the native and his sons, and the sons will be happy and prosperous. Furthermore, if the 5th lord from the Lagna or the Moon is well-placed, and the 5th house is aspected by a benefic or the lord of an auspicious house, the native is assured of being blessed with children.

Additionally, Saravali holds that if the key factors of the chart—specifically the Lagna, the Moon, Jupiter, and the Sun—are strong and placed in male signs (Rasis) and male Navamsas, it indicates a male birth, securing the family lineage.

Strength and Timing

The positive fruits of Go Yoga are not experienced uniformly throughout life but are activated during specific planetary periods and transits.

Dasha Activation

The primary effects of Go Yoga are delivered during the major period (Dasha) of Jupiter. The strength of the participating planets determines the intensity of the results. As a general principle of planetary strength outlined in the Nadi tradition (specifically in Roots of Nadi - Satyanarayan Naik), planets possessing a strength of 55% or above provide excellent yoga results. Planets with a strength between 28% and 54% yield ordinary results, while those falling below 28% produce weak or negligible outcomes.

Furthermore, if Sagittarius happens to be the Ascendant (Lagna), Jupiter's placement there puts it in the 1st house. According to Sarvartha Chintamani, during a Jupiter Dasha where Jupiter is posited in the Lagna, the native is blessed with comforts, ornaments, conveyances, and associations with warriors or leaders.

Periodicity and Transits

The yoga is subject to intensification based on the periodicity of Jupiter's transit through Sagittarius. Additionally, general principles of Raja Yoga apply to the exalted Lagna Lord. As stated in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, if the 10th lord (a Kendra lord) aspects the Lagna lord (a Trikona lord), it forms a highly successful and fame-giving combination, which further enhances the royal status promised by Go Yoga.

Cancellation and Caveats

While Go Yoga is a highly auspicious combination, its positive indications—particularly regarding progeny and family prosperity—can be obstructed or nullified by specific planetary afflictions as detailed in classical texts.

Afflictions to the Houses of Progeny

The presence of a strong Jupiter in Sagittarius typically promises family growth, but this can be cancelled under severe trik house placements. According to Jatak Alankaar, if the lord of the 5th house from Jupiter (which, in Go Yoga, is Aries, ruled by Mars) is posited in a Trik house (the 6th, 8th, or 12th), or if the Lagna lord, 5th lord, and 9th lord are all placed in Trik houses, the native will lack progeny despite the presence of the yoga.

Additionally, Phaladeepika warns that if the 5th house from the Lagna, the Moon, or Jupiter is associated with or aspected by malefic planets without any benefic influence or aspect, the native will have no issues, thereby diluting the family status and legacy promised by Go Yoga.
