Pale Eyelids and Nails (Panduta)
Description
In Ayurveda, pale eyelids and nails, known as Panduta, are commonly seen as indicators of anemia or blood deficiency (Rakta Kshaya), often associated with a Vata and Pitta imbalance. This paleness may signify weakened blood quality, inadequate circulation, or a deficiency in nutrients essential for building and maintaining healthy blood tissues. Ayurveda recognizes the importance of nourishing Rasa Dhatu (the primary nutrient layer) and Rakta Dhatu (blood) for vibrant and healthy nails and eyelids.
Causes
- Deficiency in Iron and Other Nutrients:
- Low iron, B12, or folic acid levels can lead to anemia, reducing the blood’s ability to carry oxygen to tissues, causing paleness.
- Vata and Pitta Imbalance:
- Excessive Vata can lead to dryness and weakness in Rasa and Rakta Dhatus, while Pitta imbalance may disrupt blood purity and vitality.
- Poor Digestion (Agni Imbalance):
- Weak digestion leads to poor absorption of nutrients, resulting in insufficient nourishment of the blood.
- High Levels of Toxins (Ama):
- Accumulated Ama (toxins) from undigested food can obstruct nutrient assimilation, impacting blood quality.
- Chronic Stress and Fatigue:
- Excessive physical or mental exertion depletes the body’s reserves, affecting blood formation.
