Frequent Urination

Description

Frequent urination, or "Mutra Vahasrotas Vikara" in Ayurveda, is the urge to urinate more often than usual. This condition may affect sleep, daily routines, and quality of life. It can result from various physical or emotional factors and is often linked to the urinary system, digestive imbalances, or chronic health conditions.

Causes

Ayurvedic Causes:

  1. Imbalanced Vata and Pitta Doshas – Vata imbalance can increase the urge to urinate, while Pitta aggravation may cause burning sensation or increased frequency.
  2. Mutraghata (Urinary Disorders) – Conditions like Mutrakrichha (dysuria) and Prameha (urinary issues, including diabetes) can cause frequent urination.
  3. Accumulated Ama (Toxins) – Poor digestion may lead to toxins, disturbing fluid balance and urinary functions.
  4. Dietary Factors – Excessive intake of diuretic foods like caffeine, alcohol, spicy, and salty foods aggravate Pitta and can lead to increased urination.
  5. Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) – Infections in the bladder or urinary tract can lead to frequent urination.
  6. Diabetes – High blood sugar levels increase urine production
  7. Overactive Bladder – Bladder muscle contractions may cause frequent urges.
  8. Medications and Diuretics – Certain drugs and substances, like caffeine and alcohol, increase urine production.
  9. Pregnancy – Increased pressure on the bladder can cause more frequent urination.
