Improper digestion of food can be caused by various factors that disrupt the normal functioning of the digestive system. In Ayurveda, these factors are often related to imbalances in the doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) and the digestive fire (Agni).

Reasons Why Food Doesn't Digest Properly:

  1. Not eating according to proper guidelines.
  2. Drinking too much water with meals.
  3. Eating irregularly (either too little or too much at odd times).
  4. Eating again before the previous meal has been fully digested.
  5. Combining incompatible foods (beneficial and harmful foods together).
  6. Suppressing natural urges (like bowel movements or urination).
  7. Staying awake at night or sleeping too much during the day.
  8. Due to jealousy.
  9. Due to fear.
  10. Due to anger.
  11. Due to greed.
  12. Due to illness.
  13. Due to depression or a feeling of helplessness.
  14. Due to hatred or eating without appetite.
  15. Due to anxiety.
  16. Eating cold or stale food.
  17. Eating dry food (without oil or ghee).
  18. Consuming foods that cause constipation.
  19. Eating foods that cause burning sensations.
  20. Eating impure or contaminated food.
  21. Eating at inappropriate times.
  22. Eating out of attachment or emotional desire.
  23. Eating out of shame.
  24. Eating with a disturbed mind.
