Feet Oil Massage (Pāda Abhyanga)

Guidelines

Feet oil massage is a soothing practice that promotes overall health and well-being. Here are the guidelines for performing this massage effectively:

  1. Preparation:

    • Choose a suitable oil for the massage, such as sesame oil or a medicated oil infused with herbs beneficial for the feet. Warm the oil slightly before use to enhance absorption.
  2. Timing:

    • It is best to perform the feet oil massage in the evening or before bedtime, as it promotes relaxation and improves sleep quality.
  3. Technique:

    • Posture: Sit comfortably in a quiet place where you can focus on the massage.
    • Application:
      • Pour a small amount of warm oil onto your palms.
      • Begin by gently rubbing the oil onto the soles of your feet using your thumbs, applying even pressure.
      • Gradually work your way to the toes, massaging each toe individually, and then move to the top of the foot.
      • Ensure to massage the ankles, heel, and arch of the foot as well.
  4. Duration:

    • Spend at least 5-10 minutes on each foot for effective benefits.
  5. Post-Massage Care:

    • After the massage, you may choose to leave the oil on for a few hours or overnight for maximum absorption. Wearing cotton socks can help keep the oil in place and protect your bedding.
  • Sloka:
    “पादाभ्यड्रस्तु स्ुस्थय नद्राराषटंप्रसादळुत्‌ ।
    पाद्खुतिभ्रमस्तम्मसंकोचस्फुरनप्रणुत्‌ ॥ ६१॥”
